I have been getting this question a lot and I stupidly assumed that everyone knew what responsive websites were.  I have put the below together which I hope will explain things a bit.

Responsive web design ensures that websites display correctly on every device. This provides a fluid, intuitive user experience regardless of screen size. This best practice not only helps ensure that each website user has access to the same information and online tools, it also facilitates the commercial and brand awareness goals of a website. A website with responsive design from FlexiWeb can be depended on to function reliably, so that no user is ever left out of what your organisation has to offer.

For example this website is responsive!  To see it in action, open this article on a desktop browser and slowly make the browser thinner and wider. You should see the layout magically adjust itself to more comfortably fit the new width of the browser, even if you make the page as skinny as the resolution of a mobile phone.
